Enzymes and bacteria Flashcards
What does your large intestine contain?
Bacteria
What do bacteria make in your large intestines?
Vitamins to keep you healthy
What do digestive juices contain?
Enzymes
What are enzymes?
Proteins that can break large molecules of nutrients into small molecules
What are enzymes known as?
Biological catalysts
What are the 3 main types of enzymes?
Carbohydrase
Lipase
Protease
What is carbohydrase and where is it foudn?
Carbohydrase breaks down carbohydrates into sugar molevules and is in your saliva breaking down starch.
What is protease and where is it found?
Protease breaks down proetin into amino acids and they are done in the stomach and small inetsine
What is lipase?
Lipase breaks down lipids into fatty acids and glycerol.
What is bile?
It breaks down lipids into small droplets so its easier for the lipase enzymes to work on.
