Enzymes Flashcards
Lysozyme
A clamp shaped enzyme that cuts proteins, most notably bacteria in the mouth.
Chaperonin
Binds to unfolded proteins and assists in their proper folding.
Cellulase
Enzyme that breaks down cellulose found in cow stomachs.
Sucrase
Breaks down sucrose into glucose and fructose.
CaM Kinase
Activated by an increase of calcium in the cell. Stimulates ERK.
PKA
Activated by cAMP it starts the glycogen breakdown associated with the fight or flight response.
ERK
Is stimulated by CaM Kinase and stimulates mitosis or cell growth.
Ribosome
Carries out protein synthesis and is found in either the cytosol or on the rough ER.
Myosin
Motor protein that facilitates muscle contraction and uses ATP.
Dynein
Catalyzes locomotion in cilia and flagella.
Phosphatase
Removes the phosphates from molecules in a cell.
Adenylyl Cyclase
Converts ATP to cAMP following the activation of G-protein linked receptors.
Phosphodiesterase
Converts cAMP to AMP by adding a phosphate group to the molecule.
Sodium-Potassium Pump
Found in the cell membrane and pumps sodium out of the cells and potassium in.
Flippase
Catalyzes the phospholipid flip-flop about once a month.
