Enzyme inhibition Flashcards
1
Q
Irreversible inhibition
A
-> Combines with the enzyme by permanent covalent bonding to one of the groups vital for catalysts to occur.
-> Occurs more slowly, its effects are more devastating.
2
Q
Reversible inhibition
A
-> When the inhibitor is removed enzyme can function normally again.
-> Competitive inhibition & non-competitive inhibition.
3
Q
Competitive inhibition
A
A competitive inhibitor binds to the active site of the enzyme, preventing the substrate from binding.
4
Q
Non-competitive inhibition
A
Binds to the enzyme at a site other than the active site, changing the shape of the active site and preventing the substrate from binding.
