Enzymatic Inhibition Q4 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the five types of inhibition? Explain them and what the effect has on kinetics.
A
Irreversible: Leads to permanent loss of function.
Competitive: Inhibitor competes with substrate at binding site. Km shift right (increase), no Vm
Uncompetitive: Inhibitor binds ES complex after substrate binds. Vm reduction, Km shift left.
Noncompetitive: Inhibitor binds the enzyme or enzyme substrate complex. Reduces Vm no Km change.
Mixed: There is equal amount of binding before and after enzyme-substrate complex is formed. Reduces Vm, Km shift right.
