Environmental Performance Evaluation Flashcards
What are general Environmental Performance Indicators?
~ Energy
~ Waste
~ Raw Materials
~ Effluent
What is the key feature of all performance indicators?
That they are measurable
What are the three EPI (Environmental Performance Indicators) as specified in ISO14031?
~ Management Performance Indicators (MPI’s)
~ Operational Performance Indicators (OPI’s)
~ Environmental Condition Indicators (ECI’s)
Define Environmental Performance Indicators (EPI’s)
Are a business tool for the measurement of environmental performance. They should be quantifiable metrics that identify the environmental performance of a business. e.g. tonnes of waste sent to a landfill per tonne of product produced.
Define Management Performance Indicators (MPI’s)
provide information regarding the efforts of management in relation to environmental performance
Define Operational Performance Indicators (OPI’s)
provide information regarding the environmental performance of operations and are measures of the environmental inputs and outputs from an organisations activites
Define Environmental Condition Indicators (ECI’s)
provide information about the condition of the ambient environment surrounding the organisation, which may be affected by its activities
What areas can be measured and therefore monitored and reported on?
~ incidents
~ Emission
~ Waste
~ Water
~ Energy
~ Transport and Travel
~ CO2 and Carbon (Measurement Conversion)
What are the two monitoring techniques?
~ Active
~ Reactive
Define Active monitoring
means before it happens
objective is to check that environmental plans have been implemented and to monitor the extent of compliance.
Define Reactive Monitoring
After it has happened
objective is to analyse data relating to incidents/accidents or other loss causing events.
Reason for Workplace Inspections
~ assessment of the standards of the workplace against specified performance standards and risks
~ identification and reporting of any deficiencies
~ identification of causes and of actions to be taken to remedy the problem
Define audit as per ISO9011:2018
systematic, independent and documented process for obtaining objective evidence and evaluating it objectively to determine the extent to which that audit criteria are fulfilled.
What are the Requirements for Effective Report Writing?
A Good Report should aim to:
> get the message through to the reader
> make the message and arguments clear and easy to understand
> make the arguments and conclusions persuasive
What the points of report Style?
> clear
concise
correct
courteous
complete
consistent
convincing
