What is ecology?
Ecology is the study if how living things relate to each other and to their environment.
What do we mean by environment?
Their environment refers to all the in which the organism lives, which affects the growth and development of the organism.
What is the biosphere?
The biosphere is the part if the Earth inhabited by living organisms, including land, ocean and atmosphere in which life can exist.
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a community of living organisms interacting with one another and their non- living environment. The Earth itself is a true ecosystem as no part if it is isolated from the rest.
Ecosystem= communities + environment
Types of ecosystems:
Woodlands, desert, rainforest, seashore, grassland, Arctic, freshwater, marine and hedgerow
What is a habitat?
A habitat is the particular place within the ecosystem where an organism lives and which it adapted.
What is a population?
A population is all the members of the same species living.
Pooter:
A small container connected to 2 tubes used to catch tiny animals
Quadrat:
A square frame, thrown randomly on the ground, which is used to sample plants in an area
Where does the constant input of energy come from?
The sun
What is matter?
Anything that takes up space (such as food, chemicals and elements or minerals)
What absorbs the matter?
Plants from their environment
How is calcium absorbed?
By the roots of a plant from the soil
How is carbon absorbed?
The air in the form of carbon dioxide
What is a community?
All the different populations in an area
