Most common entrapment neuropathy of the lower extremity
Leads to burning or tingling sensation on the lateral shin and dorsum of foot
May also lead to weakness of foot dorsiflexion (tibialis anterior) and eversion (peroneaus longus)
Peroneal neuropathy at the fibular head
Leads to burning dysesthesias on toes and sole of foot
If calcaneal sensory branches involved, heel is involved
Tarsal tunnel syndrome
Symptoms depend on fibers involved (preferentially peroneal or tibial
Usually occurs at the sciatic notch
Sciatic mononeuropathy
Leads to pain or tingling paresthesias in the thumb and first three fingers
Weakness in abductor pollicis brevis (carpal tunnel), finger
flexors
Median mononeuropathy at wrist (carpal tunnel) or at elbow
Pain and tingling in the ring and pinky fingers; if dorsal ulnar fibers involved, dorsum of hand is involved as well
Weakness in intrinsic muscles of hand, some finger flexors
Ulnar mononeuropathy at elbow or in forearm
Pain and tingling paresthesias on the dorsum of the hand
Weakness in the wrist and finger extensors
Radial mononeuropathy
