What is repetition?

A

Repetition is where a phrase or a word is said twice in a sentence. “The room was dark, and then dark.”

A

A

Foreshadowing is when you hint at something non-specifically in a text that may happen later. Such as, “The Titanic is absolutely unsinkable - nothing can sink it.”

A

When something contrasts with something else yet they would not exist without each other. Such as you can see the stars in the sky but that is only because of the seemingly infinite darkness of space.

A

The first sentence is the first sentence in a text or paragraph which may set a new scene.

A

The last sentence in a text or a paragraph is what it says it is. It ultimately closes off that text and could leave the reader feeling certain ways.

What is Enjambment?

A

When the meaning of one sentence rolls on to the next line. E.g. “Hope cannot fathom What reality will show.” (Where the capital W is represents the changing of lines.)

What is perspective change?

A

When in a text the observations of characters on one possible event may change to a larger scale or a smaller scale. E.g going from the ecosystem of a gorge base going to the ecosystem of the whole rainforest around it.

A

Cohesion is when things in a text or a paragraph or a sentence all come together and combine in to the total meaning of something.

What is a parallel narrative?

A

When there are two or more separate incorporated stories in a text which may or may not eventually intertwine with each other.

What is Anaphora?

A

Using a word which refers to a previous word said in the same sentence. E.g. “I like it and so do they.” Or, “My views on this are similar to their views. “ or, “It was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”

A

When a past event is narrated at a later point in terms of the current date of the text. E.g. if you were talking about WWI in a story which was written during WWII. Basically like a flashback
