English lesson of October 25, 2023 Flashcards

Q
What do we say to people when we want to tell them that we will be back shortly (in French: Je reviens tout de suite)?
A
I’ll be right back!
2
Q
What is the difference between “grab” and “pick up” in English?
A
Using “grab” suggests rudeness or haste. “I’ll just grab something to eat (because I don’t have time for a proper meal),” or “I grabbed the controller from my brother (because he had been playing long enough).”
“Pick up” is more “neutral” and is not something we necessarily do in haste (E.g.: I’ll pick you up at 8! - and not “I’ll grab you at 8!”)
