Epic hero
Has qualities admired by cultures. Superhuman strength, interference, guide/mentor, temptation, honor/glory, generous-ruthless, victory.
Epic plot
Involves a long journey and is full of complications (strange creatures, events, divine intervention, war, etc.)
Epic setting
Includes fantastic or exotic lands and more than one nation
Epic/Homeric simile
simile comparing 2 unlike things using like or as, great length/detail
Epithet
Brief description/specific phrase that characterizes person/thing
Archetypes

Epic themes
themes reflecting universal concerns (courage, loyalty, beauty)

reference to famous person/place/event

What are the 7 steps to the Epic Hero Cycle?
- hero is charged with quest/task
- hero is tested for worthiness of their quest through battles/hardships
- hero receives help/interference from gods/supernatural forces
- hero descends into darkness or supernatural world humans don’t go to
- hero reaches low point, almost abandons quest
- hero is resurrected, becomes person they were meant to be
- hero restored to rightful place
