Engines Flashcards
What make are the engines?
Thielert Aircraft Engines - TAE 125
What type of engines are they? x6 characteristics
Four-cylinder Four-stroke Diesle cycle Liquid cooled Turbo-charged Wet sump lubrication
Does the FADEC operate the engine?
Yes, the FADEC operates two ECUs on each engine which control the engine.
Minimum and Maximum engine temperature?
-30degC and +75degC
Does the left hand engine control cabin heating?
No, cabin heating is through the Right Hand Engine. The air ventilation inlet is on the underside of the RH wing, inboard of the engine nacelle. Air distributed via 6 nozzles. The Left hand controls defrost.
How does the ECU receive power?
Each engine has its own ECU. Receives electrical power from generator of at least 1 engine running.
Or if both at standstill, power from the battery.
What does liquid cooled mean?
Consists of radiator and bypass.
Liquid coolant pumped around passages within the engine by a belt driven integral pump.
How does the engine cooling system work?
The bypass system operates when coolant temperatures are low -> heats engine up quickly. When hot (88degC) the radiator activated by thermostat valve -> directs fluid through heat exchanger. Coolant to air heat exchanger provides cabin heat. Expansion tank protects from overpressure due to pressure relief valve. And overflow pipe drains excess coolant.
Describe the fire detection system.
Overheat detector found in the hot area of each engine. When temp reaches 250degC the overheat detector closes electric circuit -> warning message.
