Engines Flashcards
EGT Indication Displayed: (white) – (amber) – (red) –
normal operating range
maximum continuous limit reached
maximum start or takeoff limit reached.
The autostart system does not monitor
oil pressure and temperature
The APU’s starter motors duty cycle for the electric starter motor and air turbine starter is
3 start attempts in a 60 minute period each.
What happens when the Engine Fire switches are in the Out position
Out –
arms both engine fire extinguishers
closes the associated engine and spar fuel valves
closes the associated engine bleed air valves
trips the associated engine generators off
shuts off hydraulic fluid to the associated engine–driven hydraulic pump
depressurizes the associated engine–driven hydraulic pump
removes power to the thrust reverser isolation valve.
The APU has attended and unattended operating modes.
The attended mode operates when …….
The unattended mode operates at all other times on the ground.
either engine is running or starting, or when the airplane is in flight.
In the attended mode, any of the following faults cause the APU to shut down immediately:
APU fire/inlet over temperature overspeed/loss of overspeed protection APU controller failure speed droop. There is no cool down period. The EICAS advisory message, APU SHUTDOWN, displays.
For the following faults, the APU continues to operate and the EICAS message APU LIMIT displays:
high EGT
high oil temperature
low oil pressure.
There is no cooldown period when the APU is shut down after the APU LIMIT message is displayed.
In the unattended mode, any of the following faults cause the APU to shut down immediately:
APU fire/inlet overtemperature overspeed/loss of overspeed protection high EGT low oil pressure high oil temperature generator oil filter approaching bypass intake door failure APU controller failure speed droop no combustion on start no acceleration on start. There is no cooldown period.
There is no low oil quantity NNC in the QRH for engines or the APU.
If abnormal oil quantity indications are observed, check oil pressure and oil temperature. If oil pressure and oil temperature indications are normal,….
operate the engine normally
A low oil quantity is not alone a sign of an engine malfunction. However, low oil pressure is a sign of
imminent engine failure
A tailpipe fire will only occur on the ground, during engine start or engine shutdown. It is caused by the ignition of excess fuel and it can be visually spectacular. “There is no indication of a tailpipe fire on the flight deck, apart from a possible EGT rise. Therefore, the first indication will likely come from an outside party stating you have an engine fire. The quickest way extinguishing a tailpipe fire is to
motor the engine
Eng Svr Damage/Sep L, R
An Engine failure is severe if one or more of these occur….
Condition:
One or more of these occur:
Airframe vibrations with abnormal engine indications
Engine separation
Therefore if you have airframe vibrations, it’s a severe failure!
