Engine Controls Flashcards
What start system components are activated when the engine master is selected?
Low pressure and high pressure shut off valves
What indication is there for the HP clock being open?
None
How is the LP fuel valve position indicated?
A light
What is the purpose of the friction brakes in both the throttle and auto-throttle systems?
To stop the throttle from moving due to vibration.
What does the auto-throttle use to make the throttle inputs?
Servo mechanicism
What are the three positions on the thrust reverser lever and what do they do?
Normal- thrust reverser are down and locked
Idle- thrust reverser up and engines left idle
Full reverse- thrust reversers are up engines are running to increase reverse thrust
What is usually fitted to prevent an increase in power before the T/R is fully deployed?
Interlock
What prevents the selection of both forward and reverse thrust together?
Interlock
How many channels must be used to transmit information from the throttle to the ECU and why?
2 for safety if one fails.
What converts the input from the throttle into an electrical signal for the ECU?
Resolvers
Why is continuous ignition automatically activated on some aircraft?
To keep the flame constant in bad weather
Why are there 2 ignition channels and where do they get their power from?
There are 2 channels for safety.
1 from emergency power
1 from hot battery bus
Where are igniter plugs usually found?
Towards the bottom of the combustion chamber
Why is immersion depth critical for an igniter plug?
To get good combustion
What is the purpose of the cooling jacket around ignition leads?
To cool the the copper core, to keep the conduciveness the same
