Energy Transfer In Natural System Flashcards
Outer core
Outer core is the layer below the earths mantle
Inner core
Earths solid centre
Asthenosphere
A partly molten layer in earths upper mantle just below lithosphere
Mantle convection
The driving force behind tectonic plate moment. It works when cold manga rises then gets cold and then gets hot again. Sort of like a circle
Plate boundary
The region where two tectonic plates are in contact
Divergent plate boundary
A region where tectonic plates are spreading apart
Rift valley
A steep sided valley formed on land
Ridge push
A process in which tectonic plates push apart old material and creating new ones
Rift eruptions
Volcanoes that occur where magma erupts through long cracks
Convergent plate boundary
Region where tectonic plates are colliding
Subduction
When one tectonic plate is forced under another
Mantle
Earths thickest layer. Makes up 70 percent of the earths volume
Slab pull
The pulling of a tectonic plate as its edge subduction deep into the mantle
Volcano belt
A long chain of volcanoes
Composite volcanoes
Large cone shape volcano. Very explosive. Thick magma but not very big volcano
