Energy Flashcards
What is fuel?
Fuel is the substance that store energy and the energy is transferred when it burns.
What is fossil fuels?
Fossil fuels are made of plants and animals that were trapped in mud and rocks millions of years ago.
What are the examples of fossil fuels?
- Coal
- Oil
- Natural gas
What is non-renewable energy?
Non-renewable energy is the energy that will run out one day and NEVER COME BACK!!!
What is nuclear fuel?
Nuclear fuel is the energy released from the particles that everything is made up from. It is used in nuclear power stations to generate electricity.
What is biofuel?
Biofuel is a fuel made from plants or animals droppings (Poo)
What is renewable energy?
Renewable energy is an energy resource that will NEVER run out.
Name 3 examples of renewable energy resources?
Any of the following:
- Solar
- Wind
- Wave
- Tidal
- Biofuel
- Geothermal
- Hydroelectricity
What are the advantages of using renewable resources?
It does not produce harmful gases or contribute to global warming. It will not run out and it does not pollute the environment.
What are the disadvantages of using renewable resources?
It is more expensive and not always available.
What is chemical energy?
The energy that is stored in food, fuels and batteries.
What is kinetic energy?
The energy that is stored in moving objects.
What is thermal energy?
The energy that is stored in hot objects.
What is elastic energy?
The energy that is stored in objects that can be stretched, squashed or twisted.
What is gravitational potential energy?
The energy that is stored in objects that move to high places.
