energetics Flashcards
what is the change in energy called?
the enthalpy change
what are the units for enthalpy change?
KJ/mol
what does an endothermic energy profile look like?
the reactants start lower (less energy) and the products end higher (more energy)
why can enthalpy change have a positive or negative value?
if the reaction is endothermic the value is positive because the reaction takes in energy. if the reaction is ex other kid the value is negative because the reaction is giving out energy
exothermic
warm, gives out energy
endothermic
cold (endo the world - arctic/antarctic - cold) takes in energy from its surroundings
Is bond making and endothermic or exothermic reaction?
Exothermic
Is bond breaking endothermic or exothermic?
Endothermic
