Endoscopy Flashcards
When is a high speed video or stroboscopy used?
To see vibratory characteristics of VF vibration
Who developed laryngeal mirror?
Manual Garcia in the 1850’s
What am I?
My flexible fiber optic cable has a light source on my scope tip and carries the image to a camera and computer monitor
I utilize a flexible nasendoscope
Transnasal flexible endoscopy
Name 3 pros of using transnasal endoscopy
- Patient can speak normally
- Great view of supraglottic structures and velar function
- Won’t really elicit a strong gag reflex
Name 3 cons associated with using the transnasal endoscopy
- Image and color distortion, poor magnification
However, NEWER chip in models provide better light and image magnification
Name the pros and cons associated with the rigid oral scope
Pros: great image, magnification and light
Cons: may cause gag reflex
Can only produce sustained vowels
What is the difference between a normal phrase and a locked phase in videosteoboscopy?
Normal phase: each flash of light takes a picture of a DIFFERENT part of the vibratory cycle. Software combines the pictures to make a complete cycle in one picture.
Pt’s fundamental frequency is used to determine where the light flashes
Locked phase: there light flashes at the same point ever cycle.if the cycle is normal, the VF will look like they’re standing still. If not normal, the cycle will move.
When is the laryngeal endoscopy used?
When you need to view the anatomical structures and gross function of the larynx
