Q

Description of golgi bodies

A

They are
- flat
- disc shaped sacs or cisternae

they are stacked parallel to each other, varied number of cisternae are present in golgi complex

Q

How are they arranged?

A

The Golgi Cisternae are cocentrically arranged near the nucleus with
- convex cis (forming face)
- concave trans (maturing face)

note, cis and trans faces of the organelle are entirely different but interconnected.

A

principally performs the functioning
- packaging of material
- delivering to intracellular targets or secreted outside the cell

Q

How are the functions of Endoplasmic Reticulum and Golgi complex interconnected?

A
  • Materials to be packaged in the form of vesicles from the ER fuse with Cis face of golgi apparatus and moves towards the maturing face or concave trans. This explains why golgi apparatus remains in close connection with endoplasmic reticulum.

Q

Where do proteins go after they are synthesized by the ribosomes in ER?

A

A number of Proteins synthesized by ribosomes in ER are modified in cisternae of golgi body before they are released from trans face
