Chromosomes Flashcards
Introduction to chromosomes
during different stages of cell division, cells show structured chromosomes in place of nucleus
What does chromatin contains?
-chromosomes contains DNA
-and some proteins called histones
-also some non- histone proteins
what is primary constriction?
every chromosome has primary constriction known as centrosome, on its sides are disc shaped structure present as kinetochore
Are the primary cell constrictions always available in the cell?
No visible, only during the cell division
Based on the position of centromere chromosomes can be classified into?
1.metacentric- middle centromere, forming two equal arms
2.sub-metacentric: slightly away from middle forming one short and one longer
3. acrocentric: centromere is present close to end one is extremely short and another is long arm
4.telocentric: terminal centromere
