Centrosomes and Centrioles Flashcards
What are centrosomes?
centrosomes are organelle containing two cylinder structures called centrioles
these centrioles lie perpendicular to each other.
What are they surrounded by?
they are surrounded by amorphus pericentriolar materials
What are centrioles made of?
Centrioles are made up of 9 evenly spaced peripheral fibrils, triplets, they connect adjacent triplets
what are peripheral fibrils made of?
peripheral fibrils are made of tubulin protein
What is hub?
the centre of proximal region of centriole is proteinaceous and it is known as hub, it connects the tubules of peripheral triplets
and how does it connect the tubules of peripheral triplet?
by radial spokes which are made of special proteins
Functions of centrioles
- forms the body of cilia and flagella
- makes spindle fibres which later turns into spindle apparatus for cell division of animals
