What is the role of the endocrine system?
Plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis, a stable internal body environment.
What is the role of hormones in the endocrine system?
Hormones travel through the blood to target organs to adjust their activity to regulate factors such as growht, reproduction, metabolic rate, bone growth and sugar levels.
What are the organs that make up the endocrine system?
The endocrine system is made up of the following:
- Two adrenal glands
- Two ovaries (females)/ two testes (males)
- Four parathyroid glands
- Pancreas
- Pineal Gland
- Pituitary Gland
- Thymus Gland
- Thyroid Gland
Endocrinology
A subspecialty of internal medicine that treats and diagnoses conditions associated with the endocrine system.
Endocrinologists
Diagnose and treat conditions that develop as a result of a hormone imbalance.
Hypersecretion
When glands release too much hormone.
