What is the role of the endocrine system?
To provide a chemical system of communication via the blood stream and to control vital functions in the body
What is the role of the glands?
Hormones are secreted into the bloodstream and affect any cell in the body that has a receptor for that particular hormone
What do hormones cause to happen in the body?
It affects growth, metabolism and reproduction
What is the major endocrine gland?
The pituitary gland
What does the pituitary gland do?
It controls the release of hormones from al, other endocrine glands in the body
What does the thyroid gland do?
It produces the hormone thyroxine. It affects heart rate, it increases metabolic rate and affects growth rate
What is the function of the adrenal gland?
It is part of the fight or flight response as it facilitates the release of adrenaline
What is the function of the testes?
They facilitate the releases of testosterone
What is the function of the ovaries?
It facilitates the release of oestrogen and progesterone
