What is a hormone?
A
Chemical substance produced by a gland which alters the activity of a specific target organ.

What does the pituitary gland do?
A
“Master glad” and controls the release of all other hormones (releases hormones to work on other glands)

What does the thyroid gland do?
A
Produces thyroxine which controls the human metabolic rate. (metabolism)

What does the adrenal gland do?
A
Produces adrenaline which increases heart rate and controls fight or flight response.

What does the pancreas do?
A
Produces insulin and glucagon which controls blood glucose levels in the body.

What do the testes do?
A
Produce testosterone which controls male puberty.

What is the function of the ovaries?
A
Produces oestrogen, controls female puberty
