What is a hormone?
chemical substance produced by a ductless endocrine gland that has specific regulatory effect on a target cell or organ
What are the water soluble hormones?
all amino acid based hormones
What are the lipid soluble hormone?
Steroid and thyroid hormones
What is the infundibulum?
A stalk of attachments to the hypothalmus
What is the posterior pituitary
Made of neural tissue and infundibulum that receives, stores, and releases hormones
What is the anterior pituitary?
Made up of glandular tissue that synthesizes and secretes a number of hormones
What is the hypothalamic-hypophyseal tract?
Tract arises from neurons in paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei in hypothalmus
What does oxytocin do?
Letdown reflex, promote nurturing, stimulates uterine contractions
A deficiency in ADH can cause what?
Diabetes insipidus
