Endocrine Pancreas Flashcards
How are the cells of the Islets of Langerhans arranged?
arranged as rounded clusters of cells within exocrine pancreas
How many islets of langerhans are there?

What are the four cell types of the islets of langerhans?
alpha, beta, delta and F cells
How do alpha cells look and what do they secrete?
have regular granules with a dense core surrounded by a clear region – secrete glucagon
How do beta cells look and what do the secrete?
irregular granules with a core formed by irregular crystals – secrete insulin
What do delta cells secrete? what does it do?
somatostatin –inhibits other cells
What do F cells secrete?
pancreatic polypeptide
