used for hypothyroidism, goiter and hashimoto

anorexia, weight loss, tachycardia

take at same time each day on a empty stomach; CAUTION IN PTS WITH PRE EXISTING HEART CONDITIONS
Food that inhibit thyroid
strawberries, peached, pears, cabbage, kale
Hyperthyroidism
increased T3 and T4
severe- thyroid storm= emergency
common- graves disease
s/s- heat intolerance, weight loss, bulging eyes
Methiamozole (Tapazole)
used for hyperthyroidism, inhibits hormone synthesis
Propylthiouracil (PTU)
inhibits conversion of T4 and T3 LIVER DAMAGE; used for hyperthyroidism
Potassium Iodine
reduces size of thyroid
Crushing Syndrome
too many steroids; weight gain (moon face), acne, increased BG and BP
Addisons Disease
too little steroids; weight loss, increased potassium, hair loss
Steroids MOA
supresses inflammation and increases adrenal function
