What is the symogi effect?
when a pt has early morning (7am) hyperglycemia due to low blood sugar at night (usually by 3 am).
What is the Dawn Phenomenon?
when a pt has high blood sugar in the morning (7 am) and rising sugar levels through the night.
how do you differential between symogi effect and dawn phenomenon?
you check the blood sugar by 3 am it should be low for symogi and elevated for dawn phenomeon.
human leukocyte antigens, acute onset, destruction of pancreatic islet cells, ketones in blood/urine.
Type 1 or 2 diabetes?
Type 1
for a pt with diabetes would you expect serum BUN and Creatinine to be decreased or elevated?
elevated
not linked to human leukocyte antigen system, no islet cell antibodies, insidious onset. Type 1 or 2?
Type 2
normal a1c?
4-6%
generalized pruritis, recurrent vaginitis, chronic skin infections. What might you suspect?
