How does 21-hydroxylase deficiency present?

A

The #1 cause of congenital adrenal hyperplasia

  • Unable to convert progesterone to deoxycorticosterone (So no aldosterone = electrolyte abnormalities = hypotensive)
  • Unable to convert 17-OH-progesterone to deoxycortisol (So no cortisol = hypoglycemia)
  • Ambiguous genitalia in females (due to excess testosterone)
