Q

Gastrin secreting tumor

A

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Acid hypersecretion causes recurrent ulcers in duodenum and jejunum

presents with abdominal pain, diarrhea.

Positive secertin stimulation test: gastrin levels remain elevated after administraation of secretin

may be associated with MEN1

Q

Necrolytic migratory erythema

A

necrolytic migratory erythema is seen in glucagonomas.

Glucagonomas are islet cell tumors of the pancreatic alpha cells andd result in hyperglycemia, anemia, venous thrombosis, infection, diarrhea, mental status changes, and necrolytic migratory erythema.

NME begins as erythematous papules or plaques which enlarge and coalesce. It leaves a bronze-colored area surrounded by blistering, crusting, and scaling at the borders. They are usually puritic and painful.

Q

insulinoma

A

islet cell tuors of the pancreatic beta cells.

s/s include hypoglycemia, hunger, sweating, palpitations, shaking, and nerousness.

Lab results will reveal hypoglycemia, elevated insulin, and en elevated C-peptide

Q

Somatostatinoma

A

Somatostatinomas are pancreatic islet delta cell tumors that result in the development of diabetes mellitus, cholelithiasis, steatorrhea, and hypochorhydria.

somatostatin is the “stop” hormone… so diabetes results of the physiological action of somatostatin inhibiting the release of insulin, cholelithiasis is dt decreased CCK release (decreasing gall bladder contractility) and gastric hypochlorhydria due to decreased gastrin secretion.
