Endocrine Flashcards
Adrenal medulla:
Produces epinephrine that increases heart rate and BP when there’s an increase in stressing
Adrenal cortex:
Produces corticosteroids that regulates water and sodium, the body’s response to stress, immune system, sexual development and function, and metabolism
Autoimmune disease producing thyroid hyper secretion resulting in heat intolerance, tremor, weight loss, and nervousness
Graves’ disease
Hypo function of the pancreas where there is failure to produce adequate endogenous insulin
Type 1
Endocrine system function
C.o. Endocrine glands that secrete hormones that travel through the bloodstream to signal specific target cells throughout the body
Adrenal dysfunction:
Addisons - decreased production
Cushions - excessive amounts of cortisol
Thyroid dysfunction:
Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and Graves’ disease
What type of DM does ketoacidosis occur?
