Endocrine Flashcards
DVT
If blood moves too slowly through your veins, it can cause a clump of blood cells called a
clot. When a blood clot forms in a vein deep inside your body, it causes what doctors call
deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This is most likely to happen in your lower leg, thigh, or pelvis.

Types of diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is thought to be caused by an autoimmune reaction (the body attacks
itself by mistake) that stops your body from making insulin. Approximately 5-10% of the
people who have diabetes have type 1. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes often develop
quickly. It’s usually diagnosed in children, teens, and young adults. If you have type 1
diabetes, you’ll need to take insulin every day to survive. Currently, no one knows how
to prevent type 1 diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes
With type 2 diabetes, your body doesn’t use insulin well and can’t keep blood sugar at
normal levels. About 90-95% of people with diabetes have type 2. It develops over many
years and is usually diagnosed in adults (but more and more in children, teens, and
young adults). You may not notice any symptoms, so it’s important to get your blood
sugar tested if you’re at risk. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed with healthy
lifestyle changes, such as losing weight, eating healthy food, and being active.
Haemophilia a, b
What is the difference between hemophilia A and B?
Haemophilia can be defined as a bleeding disorder that is caused by the deficiency of the clotting factors. The differences between Haemophilia A and B are in the low level
- Haemophilia A means low
levels of factor (8) and Haemophilia B is low levels of
factor (9).
hyperglycemia
Hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) means there is too much sugar in the blood because
the body lacks enough insulin. Associated with diabetes, hyperglycemia can cause
vomiting, excessive hunger and thirst, rapid heartbeat, vision problems and other
symptoms. Untreated hyperglycemia can lead to serious health problems. Feb 11, 2020
depressant drugs
How do affect the nervous system?
Depressant substances reduce arousal and stimulation. They
do not necessarily make a person feel depressed. They affect
the central nervous system, slowing down the messages
between the brain and the body. They can affect
concentration and coordination.
