Q

‘Christians should help their local communities rather than travelling the world.’

Discuss this statement. Give your own opinion and show that you have thought
about other points of view. You must refer to Christianity in your answer. [6]

A

Agree.
1) It’s expensive to travel the world and the money can be spent on more immediate, lasting needs like homelessness and poverty.
2) By travelling the world, Christians can find spiritual healing/restoration that can help them serve their communities more when they get back by sharing their journey and helping others to deepen their connection with God as this life is temporary but your faith will decide your eternal life.
3) Travelling the world takes lots of time and effort for planning and during this time Christians can instead volunteer at a homeless shelter or food bank and spend the effort needed into something that can better many lives instead of just their own.

Q

Explain what Christians mean by the term salvation. [7]

A
  • Being saved from sin through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Humanity needs to be saved from sin (Adam and Eve disobey in Genesis 3)
  • God’s love for us is so strong that he would do whatever it takes to save us from sin even offering up his only son. God’s grace is shown as we didn’t deserve his love but he gave it anyway.
  • By dying and resurrecting again, Jesus sacrificed himself and defeated death therefore covering the payment of everyone’s sins forever so that Christians can have eternal life with God.
By God’s grace we are saved.
