abnormalities in thyroid development

A
  • failure of descent= lingual thyroid
  • excessive descent= retrosternal thyroid (mediastinum)
  • thyroglossal duct cysts can develop at any part of the migratory pathway
  • pyramidal lobe if the thyroglossal duct does not lose contact
