Seized the opportunity and invaded, conquered all of Sumer.
What is cultural diffusion?
The spread of ideas, customs, and technology from one people to another.
How does cultural diffusion frequently happen?
Through migration, trade, + warfare.
How does an empire differ from a city-state?
Both independent, but city states only control a city + its surrounding territory
Define justice
The quality of being fair and reasonable
Define revenge
retaliation against a person or group in response to a perceived wrongdoing

If a man has stolen an ox, sheep, pig, or goat that belonged to a temple or palace, he shall repay thirty times its cost. If it belongs to a private citizen, he shall repay ten times. If the thief cannot pay, he shall be put to death.
What does Hammurabi’s Code say about stealing an animal?
Repay thirty times for royal property, ten times for civilian property, and killed if cannot pay.
What themes are obvious in Hammurabi’s Code?

If a woman hates her husband and says to him, “you cannot stay w/ me,” the authorities in her district will investigate the case. If she has been loyal to him and without fault, even though her husband has neglected and belittled her, she will be held innocent and may return to her father’s house. If the woman is at fault, she shall be thrown into the river.
What does Hammurabi’s Code say about a woman seeking to ditch her husband?
If she has been loyal to him and he’s a jerk, she’s innocent. If not, she is thrown into the river.
