What is empathy?
- When you imagine yourself in someone else’s situation,
- feel what they are feeling and
- understand the reasons for their feelings and behavior without judgement
Do you have to agree with someone’s feelings/behavior if you empathize with them?
No
What does it mean to have compassion?
To be kind to someone who is suffering.
Usually you also feel empathy for the person too
List 6 skills for managing negative emotions in a positive way
- stop to think about your feelings before you act
- do something to help yourself calm down eg. take deep breaths, go for a run or walk, listen to calm music
- cry or punch a pillow
- do not hurt yourself or anyone
- talk about / write / draw about your feelings
- solve your problem once you have calmed down
What is a true friend?
Someone who if there got you in good and bad times.
What makes a relationship unsafe?
When a person makes you feel uncomfortable and/or has negative influence on your life and/or hurts joy
What is a peer?
A person who is on the same level as you eg classmates, people in your rugby team, in the choir with you etc
What is a safe relationship?
A relationship that makes you feel comfortable and safe and has a positive influence on your life
What does a good relationship help you with?
- Developing social skills
- coping with difficult life events such as sadness, tragedy & change
- feeling accepted
- feeling good about yourself and developing a good self concept
- sharing experiences, dreams, emotions & fun activities
What does a bad relationship do?
- puts pressure on you to behave in a way that goes against what you think is right
- encourages you to conform to certain behavior & beliefs

- happiness
- Closeness with others
- Someone to listen to share your good times and bad times
- a shoulder to lean on when life is difficult
- someone to tell you the truth when others might not
List 3 tips for meeting new friends
- get involved in activities you enjoy, like sports
- talk to be people you meet (as long as you feel comfortable doing so)
- have a positive attitude

Negative feedback that is fair and is given in a price way
