A

-not defined but unfit= animal or bird that is infirm by virtue of being diseases, injured, fatigued.

What does transport legislation entail?

A
  • Welfare of animal is paramount at all times
  • No animals is to be transported unless fit for all aspects of the journey including loading/ unloading.
  • All animals should be transported in conditions that prevent injury or unnecessary suffering
  • Animals CANNOT be mechanically loaded, must be able to move independently
  • Cannot be blind/ infirm

What does emergency slaughter mean?

A
  • allows for animals that have suffered an accident that means they are unfit to travel to a slaughterhouse to be slaughtered on the farm.
  • accident= unforeseen/ unexpected event causing injury/ damage
  • emergency= implies slaughter takes place as a result of an event needing immediate action

  • Does the animal meet the AM conditions?
  • Any medicines withdrawal?
  • CLP? (many go down on dirty floor, cannot then clean off carcass so animal isn’t eligible for consumption)

A

Hyper aggressive animals that would be dangerous to itself, other animals and humans if tried to transport to abattoir.
-need to collect good history to ensure it isn’t a sudden change in behaviour If so concerns diseases e.g. mad cow
