Emergencies Flashcards

1
Q

Engine failure during IF approach, descending on GP, AP engaged.

A

C - keep wings level, slider/yaw, “Flight deck suspect loss of thrust”
Descending with either GS or VS. Pitch will increase to maintain, speed will bleed back if I don’t touch thrust. “YD Mistrim”

ID - PM check

Confirm

Assess if continuing or Going Around.

Go Around - default option
Sensible to go around, ensure everything stable and checked, then land.

Warn crew - going around, target Vac
Roll level
Thrust - both engines TOGA/TOGA
Drag - F1.... ROC? Gear...
Trim
.... accel alt, Vfs F0, capture Vfs

MIs - once stable in the climb or to come once levelled on MAP.
R - “PAN PAN, C/S, Engine failure, climbing X Stby”
ATO Cx
FRCs - stable in the pattern.

Continue - unlikely
Very low fuel?
Raging fire is obvious

Assess you’re still OK on glide path? Increase thrust to hold 130kts.
SEL brief = RAR STA Relight? App type. Runway/LDA. Speeds (Ref+5kts if no time), Trims, Actions on landing
Thrust - increasing on both to maintain 130kts
Drag - continuing approach Gear Down, F3
Trim
MIs - to come once under control on runway
R
A - not applicable
F - once stationary on runway

Engine Failure Performance considerations
No Ice
Ice

A

ICE FREE CONDITIONS
V ref = V ref FULL + 10kts (NO ICE)
LDR = 1.25 Unfactored (No Ice)
(Vapp = Vref F3 + 15kts)

ICING - UPDATE PERF CALCS!
V ref = V ref FULL + 35
LDR = 2.25 Unfactored (must update calculations!)

Fuel Balance Monitor (100kgs max imbalance)
Wings level, non-accelerated flight for XFER, disengage before any turns!

SHED BUS no power - AC compressor and cabin fan

OEI climb speed Go Around

A

Vac ~115kts
Accel to Vfs at Accel Alt
Maintain Vfs until NTFOP (1,500ft if following a procedure) or SALT if no longer on published MAP / MID and terrain clearance unclear.

Q

EFATO speeds to target

1) Gear up climbing away
2) cleaned up and accelerating to 180 climb
3) Max gradient clean, OEI
4) Max gradient F1 OEI = V2
5) Max rate = clean

A

1) V2 - V2 + 10 approx 110-120kts
2) Vfs until cleared level off or above 1,500ft no MCG state (end of NTOFP can be below SALT if on cleared profile). At high ALTs MCG implicit in MIDs of 3.3%, perf can be below, would have to continue Vfs and notify ATC.
3) Safe Alt, Vfs + 10 is roughly driftdown speed and gives sensible climb rate. Or speed up as required eg. icing conditions,
4) Max gradient F1 OEI = V2
5) Max rate = min drag, green circle speed ~ 130kts

A

“CABIN”

  1. Oxy mask …. PC Don 100%
  2. Mask Mic … PC ON
    (Re-establish comms)
  3. SIGNS/OUTLET … PED BELTS ON
  4. Alt … PF 10,000ft AMSL or SALT (higher of)
  5. TL .. PF IDLE
  6. Speedbrake … PF Open (won’t open below 182kts)
  7. Speed …. PF below 250 KIAS or MMO 0.7
  8. Landing Gear … PM Lower
  9. 7700C
  10. Notify ATC

If speedbrake not deployed, max speed with gear down is 275 KIAS.

Beware TCAS contacts, adjust heading to minimize confliction. UK procedures remains on airway heading, European/ICAO turn off track prior to descent.

EDM armed and active above 25,000ft with AP engaged. Will pause 5s, select HDG 90 left and FLC MMO 15,000ft. 7700C. (re-enter squawk if EDM cancelled).

To change AP mode requires disengage, re-engage (7700C requires re-entering).

  8. ATC .. PM Notify

“PAN PAN x 3, C/S, Phenom, emergency descent FL100”
High ROD, anticipate the level off ~ 2000ft to go, halve the angle and prepare to bring speed brake and gear up (once below 180).

At 10,000ft

  1. AC config … PF A/R (ie. clean up, assess range consider leaving gear if overstress?)
  2. Speed brake switch … PF CLOSE

Q

Smoke/Fire/Fumes

A

Let C put on first if you need to continue flying or monitoring the ac. if you have crew, consider deploying oxygen masks to avoid smoke inhalation. check FRCs? think they may avoid this in case you feed a fire.

  1. Oxy mask … PC DON EMER (twist left) check each other
  2. Dilution valve … PC closed
  3. Smoke Goggles … PC DON
  4. Mask Mic … PC ON
    (re-establish comms)
  5. Dump button … C BRIEF/CRM prior to pushing. Expecting CABIN ALTITUDE HI message, *EDM? consider D/C AP to avoid, delay Emergency Descent initially, FRCs call for checking if you can isolate the smoke source easily first. If so turn it off / pull CB then Dump Button - Push out and cabin will pressurize without need for Emergency Descent and associated faff.
  6. Land ASAP

If you can’t easily isolate the smoke source, into emergency descent to 10,000ft/SALT then working through each BUS bar but will be diverting to nearest on a PAN/MAYDAY.

  3. Smoke Goggles … PC DON
  4. Mask Mic .. PC ON
  5. Oxygen Supply control knob … P CREW ONLY
  6. DUMP Button … C Pushed in
  7. Bleed Knob … C OFF VENT
  8. LAND ASAP

FRCs

2 mins at EMER at ALT then Emergency Descent
Oxy to Crew only? Final steps FRCs state if no Cabin fire then Oxy supply PAX AUTO. Attempting to starve any fire of oxygen at ALT prior to descending. Not ideal for the cabin but can revive / give oxygen once greatest fire threat has been countered.
