- claims that the absence of fathers during WW1 meant that the boys were not properly socialised and disciplined and therefore become deviant and thrill seeking

E. G teddy boys - formed because young men wanted excitement after boredom of WW2 (rationing)

- calls this “affluence without responsibility” - young people such as the Teddy Boys and Mods started spending money on clothes, music and going out (mods could afford vespers (scooters)

  • mothers stayed on in work after being forced to during the war- meant boys had more money to spend on themselves - disposable income
