embryology Flashcards
what forms somites and what forms from it
paraxial mesoderm
forms axial skeleton and cranial head skeleton and muscles
pharyngeal/branchial branches form what? and where?
they are series of arches that develop to form gill-like structures - form face and neck
how many branchial arches?
5
(1,2,3,4,6)
number 5 disappears
structure of the branchial branches?
ectoderm lines outside - form clefts between arches
mesoderm in middle
endoderm in inside - pouches formed in between arches
nerves that arise from 1st arch?
mandibular branch of trigeminal V3
nerve that arises from 2nd arch?
facial nerve
nerve that arises from 3rd arch?
glossopharyngeal nerve
nerve that arises from 4th arch?
superior laryngeal branch = branch of vagus
6th arch nerve that arises?
recurrent laryngeal branch of vagus nerve
what else forms from 1st arch?
jaw line -along mandible
what else forms from 2nd arch?
upper part of hyoid bone
what else forms from 3rd arch?
thyroid cartilage
what else forms from 4th arch?
cricoid cartilage
what does face develop from?
from 5 processes -
1 frontonasal
2 maxillary
2 mandibular
stages of face development?
- 2 mandibular fuse
- thickening of frontonasal process pushing inwards and invaginated to form nasal pits
- frontonasal process divide into lateral nasal process and medial nasal processes
- medial nasal processes fuse at midline
- and grow down and laterally to from philtre
