The function of this hat is purely a fashion accessory. This is because of the unusual structure that is a very playful design and obviously inspired by placing a show on your head.
This could be worn everyday by someone who could afford to wear couture fashion as the hat is made from felt, wool and taffeta silk which are sturdy enough to be worn everyday. This design is quite plain and simple. This could be worn be a confident business woman
Style/visual impact (Schiaparelli)
Although only black and pink have been used, it creates a strong visual impact and striking effect to the the overall style. The plain black felt and wool looks quite serious against the bright fish pink silk, helping the heel section to stand out.
The overall style and aesthetic look is very contempt and unusual as it literally looks like an upside down. Although overall the design is quite plain, the hat is very structural bold and highly unique. The toe extends out from the skull cap and curves down towards the wearers face and is rounded and 3 dimensional and the thicker appearance creates a very strong structural shape above the face
Fitness for purpose (Schiaparelli)
This hat displays fitness for purpose as it is a handmade couture piece of fashion that could be worn everyday. The structure of the hat is being based on around the skull cap would make the hat comfortable and practical. The materials used (felt, wool and taffeta silk) are conventional and would provide warmth it would also male the hat very durable. The hat would easily hold its structural shoe if worn on a regular basis.
As a handmade accessory that could be worn everyday, Schiaparelli has ensured the hat the hat would be eye catching and unique- due to the styling of the design being based on a shoe it would certainly draw attention to the wearer
Materials/techniques (Schiaparelli)
The materials used in Schiaparellis hat are conventional, she had used wool, felt and taffeta silk it would be comfortable to wear because of crown being made of felt and wool. This would make it quite warm for the wearer. It would also feel tactile to the touch because of the softened of the fabrics. In contrast to this taffeta has been used in the fusha pink section of the hat as it is an expensive material it would make the hat feel expensive to the touch.
The hat is clearly handmade and crafted, not mass produced it has been carefully constructed like a structure in order to create the talk 3D appearance of the upside down shoe

The target market for this hat would be a female due to the high heel design and the black and pink colour scheme. The style of this hat looks quite simple so it would possibly attract a mature woman who is interested in couture fashion
