Q

Accessory Module Rear

A

a pneumatic starter is powered by bleed air typically from the APU. Starter limitations exist because the bleed air powering it is hot and can damage the starter if exposure time is excessive.

Engine driven boost pump.
Fuel filter.
Fuel pressure sensor.
HMU.
Oil cooler.
ODV.
Fuel Manifold.

26
Q

ODV Location and purpose

A

located on the aft side of the AGB
The ODV has four functions:
Hot start prevention
Overspeed protection
Purges fuel
Sends fuel to 12 injectors

27
Q

*Which components have a bypass indicator on them?

A

The oil filter and fuel filter

28
Q

*What is the procedure for an emergency engine shutdown?

A

PCLs to off, fuel selector levers to off, fuel boost pumps off.

29
Q

Turbo shaft engine constructed in four modules

A

Accessory Section Hot Section Cold Section Power Turbine

30
Q

Power Control Lever (PCL)

A

The PCL sets the maximum power that may be called upon It is mechanically linked to the Power Available Spindle (PAS) attached to the Hydromechanical Unit (HMU) via a cable.

31
Q

Power Available Spindle (PAS)

A

The PAS is connected to and operated by the ENG POWER CONT lever in the cockpit. (Goes between PCL and engine)

32
Q

Load Demand Spindle (LDS)

A

This mechanical link between the collective and the HMU makes fuel scheduling adjustments in a proactive attempt to match engine power to rotor load.

33
Q

Inlet Particle Separator Blower (IPS)

A

Blower that suctions small particles and blows them overboard to prevent FOD from entering the engine.

34
Q

Hydro Mechanical Unit (HMU)

A

High-pressure pump mounted/driven by the AGB, receives filtered fuel and delivers fuel to the combustion chamber.

35
Q

Accessory Module location

A

On top of cold section

36
Q

Accessory Module Front line replaceable units

A

Fuel filter, Oil Filter, liquid to liquid cooler, oil pump, and alternator

37
Q

Engine driven fuel boost pump

A

designed to suction fuel from the selected fuel cell

38
Q

Chip Detector

A

Monitors scavenge oil stream for metallic particles, illuminates the CHIP #1/#2 ENGINE / CHIP ENG 1/2 caution lights. No Fuzz Burn-off feature.

39
Q

What is the oil temperature sensor and how hot does it need to be for the caution light to illuminate?

A

transmits oil temperature to the cockpit the #1/#2 ENG OIL TEMP / ENG 1/2 OIL HOT caution light illuminates at 150C.

40
Q

Accessory Module Rear components

A

Starter, HMU, ODV, and IPS Blower

41
Q

The starter powered by what?

A

a pneumatic starter is powered by bleed air typically from the APU.

42
Q

HMU main functions (3)

A

LDS (collective input), PAS (PCL input), and the Torque Motor DEC/EDECU (engine governor) input].

43
Q

ODV

A

protects against overspeed, allows fuel to be sent to the main fuel injectors, and purges fuel after shutdown.

44
Q

High speed shaft

A

delivers power from the power turbine to the helicopter powerstrain

45
Q

Inlet Particle Separator (IPS) Blower

A

Evacuates the remaining dirty air from the collector scroll and discharges it overboard

46
Q

Compressor

A

six stage air pump Pressurizes the combustion chamber for combustion and to cold hot section components

47
Q

Variable Geometry Actuation System

A

linkage that positions the Inlet Guide Vanes, stage 1 and 2 variable stator vanes, and the Anti-Ice Start Bleed Valve (AISBV). IGV’s and variable stators (stage 1 and 2 variable vanes) are used to manipulate the airflow in the front of those compressor stages. The AISBV opens at low Ng speeds to allow the compressor to accelerate rapidly through its stall range.

48
Q

Hot section components

A

Combustion liner and thermocouple harness

49
Q

Combustion liner

A

where combustion occurs and energy in the form of “gas pressure “is directed back to act upon two separate turbine sections (Ng and Np). It also houses twelve fuel injectors, and two igniters.

50
Q

Thermocouple harness

A

A seven probe harness placed just prior to the power turbine. They measure the temperature of the gasses between the two turbine sections. The thermocouple probes feed temperature data to the DEC/EDECU for TGT limiting function; the DEC/EDECU relays the TGT signal to the cockpit.

51
Q

Power turbine components

A

converts gas pressure into rotational shaft energy to power the helicopter drive train

52
Q

H-60 fuel system components (7)

A

Engine driven boost pump. Fuel filter. Fuel pressure sensor. HMU. Oil cooler. ODV. Fuel Manifold.

53
Q

Engine oil tank capacity

A

capacity of 7 U.S. quarts.
