What is elision?
A
The omission of a phoneme is called elision. In rapid speech, some sounds may be elided within a word.

The neutral vowel
A
The neutral vowel can be omitted when used initial in the syllable and at the same time followed by a continuant and preceded by a consonant. If the preceding consonant is a plosive, it is pronounced with a nasal or lateral release. (cotton - kotn)

The glottal fricative /h/
A
It is omitted when used in initial unstressed position if the preceding word ends in a consonant. (take her)

The plosives /t,d/
A
Are omitted when preceded by a consonant and at the same time followed by another consonant. (grandmother, kindness)
