Types of Elevator Cars
A
- Hydraulic: Less than or equal to 7 stories
- Electric: Operates w/ cables, traction sheave

Types of Hoistways
A
- Single: One car in the hoistway
- Multiple: Two or more cars in the hoistway
- Blind: Elevator car not accessible from all floors.

- Single
- Slide
- Center Opening
- 2 Speed Swinging

Emergency vs. Incident
A
- Emergency: Person is ill/injured, person is in panic, fire is endangering the elevator
- Incident: Elevator malfunction w/ no life threat present

Machine Room Locations
A
- Hydraulic: Usually lowest level
- Electric Traction: Usually on roof

Phase I Ops
A
- Elevator Recall
- Positions: On, Off, Bypass (systems back into normal operating mode without reset)

Phase II Ops
A
- Inside elevator Car
- Positions: On (need to hold buttons), Off, Hold (keeps car on floor you exit onto)

Safety
A
- Stop every 5 floors
- Know stairwell locations
- PPE, SCBA, radios, forcible entry tools, chocks, elevator keys, firefighter phone
