Types of False Alarms
- Malicious : Deliberately activated by vandals
- Nuisance: System error
- Unwanted: Conditions that are not really an emergency
Types of Alarm Systems
- Non-coded
- Zoned-noncoded
- Zoned-coded
- Master-coded
Non-Coded
-No information about where alarm was activated, firefighters must search the entire building
Zoned-Noncoded
- Most common
- Divides building into zones
- Gives a zone where activation happened
Zoned-Coded
- Features of Zoned-Noncoded with zone where activation occurred announced over PA system.
- Commonly found in hospitals
Master-Coded
- Audible notification device
- Being replaced by modern speaker systems using temporal-3 pattern
5 Categories of Notification
- Local
- Remote Station
- Auxiliary
- Proprietary
- Central
Local Alarm System
-Does not notify fire department, only notifies building occupants
Remote Station System
-Signals fire department or monitoring location via radio or telephone
Auxiliary System
-Public alarm box directly to Fire Department
Proprietary System
-Connected to monitoring site owned by building owner
Central Station
-Third party off site monitoring facility paid for by building owner.
