Eletronics Flashcards
What is voltage
The force that makes electronics flow in a conductor is called voltage and it measured in volts
what is current
An electric current is a flow of electrons. When we measure current in a circuit we are measuring the number of electrons passing a given point in one second correct is measured in amps
What is resistance?
Resistance is a measure of how easisly electrons flow through a conductor, and it has measured in ohms
What is voltage is measured in?
Volts
What is current measured in?
Amps
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms
Symbol for voltage
V
Symbol for current
A
Symbol for resistance
Ω
What does mili mean
Thousandths
What does kilo mean
Thousands of
What does mega mean
Million
How is current measured
Measure is ammeter connected in series
How do you measure voltage?
Measured by connecting volt meters across the component
How do you measure resistance?
To accurately measure the resistance of a component removed from the circuit and measured, using a standard multimeter
What is an electrical conductor?
Materials that are suitable for carrying electrical current
What is an electrical insulator?
Material that prevent electrical flow
What is a semi conductive material?
It displays both conductive and insulating properties
Name, three conductors
Gold
Copper
Brass
Name three semi conductors
Silicone
Germanium
Name, three insulators
Rubber
Glass
Plastic
What does the input do
The input senses and reacts to specific changes
What does the process do
The control reacts to changes I. The input and then controls or changes the output
What does the output do
Output is switched on or off by the control part of the circuit
How do you find the resistor colour band
To find the value of the resistor you read the colour bands from left to right. The first two bands state the first two digits of the value and the third band gives the number of zeros to be added. The final colour band gives the resistor tolerance.
what are the two types of tolerance
silver and gold
what is the tolerance for gold
plus or minus 5%
what is the tolerance for silver
plus or minus 10%
what does ohm’s law state
V=IxR
what is the equation for potential divider circuits
V output = R2/R1+R2xVoltage supply
what is a printed circuit board (PCB)
A PCB is an epoxy resin board with copper tracks
what is a bread board
rows of copper tracks, covered by a layer of plastic with holes for components
advantages of using a bread board before a PCB
Easy to make changes or tested different versions of a circuit they are able to be reused
disadvantages of using a bread board before a PCB
more complexed to make, more expensive
How to make a printed circuit board (PCB)
1 Design PCB layout
2 Use a UV light box to transfer the layout.
3 Develop layout using Sodium hydroxide/developer 30 seconds.
4 Rinse with water.
5 Etch away unwanted Copper, Do in an Etch tank Full of ferric Chloride
6 Rinse with water
7 Drill holes using a PCB Drill
What are some safety precaution when making a PCB
rubber gloves for developing + Etching
Don’t look directly at the UV light
If acid gets on the skin, seek medical attention
PCB Drill –> long hair tied back, safety Goggles an also wear an apron
How to make a printed circuit board (PCB) with router
1 Deigning layout
2 Load layout into router software
3 Put Board in machine and then into the router
4 Routes cuts/engraves the layout + holes.
