Noise/Interference
Any hindrance in the process of communication
a kind of interference which is external and outside the control of both speaker and listener (others talking in the background, background music, a startling noise and acknowledging someone outside of the conversation.)
physical interference
any distraction due to a physiological function that interferes with communication. (hunger, fatigue, headaches, pain, and physiological effects from medicine that affect the way you think or feel)
physiological interference
communication barriers that which affect the mindset of a person, be it the speaker or the listener. This type of interference includes biases, prejudices, narrow-mindedness, and extreme emotional behavior. (someone with social anxiety and/or low self-esteem)
Psychological Interference
the distortion in understanding or interpretation of a message owing to ambiguity in words used and technicality of the phrases (e.g. the word “weed” can be interpreted as an undesirable plant in a yard or as a euphemism for marijuana.)
semantic interference
Context/milleu
- setting (time and place)/situation in which communication takes place
- impacts the successful exchange of info. (can be physical, social, cultural aspect)
Basic Steps of Communication
- forming of communicative intent (speaker generates idea)
- message encoding (speaker encodes an and converts it into words/actions
- transmission of the encoded message as a sequence of signals using a specific channel/medium
- reception of signals
- reconstruction if original message
- interpretation and making sense
- the receiver sends feedback
