Elements of art Flashcards
What is form?
length, width, height of object
physical visual
What are the elements of art
Line, shape, color, motion/time, volume/mass, texture, space/perspective, and form
What is the most used and fundamental element?
Line
what is a line that looks dashed called?
an implied line
What do lines do?
Demonstrate direction and communicate intended concepts
what do shapes do?
They define space, make three dimensional shapes, and are for simple concepts
what is the difference between geometric and organic lines
geometric is regular lines and curves while organic is irregular and chaos
Difference between literal and implied line
implied is formed from multiple elements while literal has a visible boundary
what is volume?
space used by an object or even empty space
what is mass?
it suggests something is solid and has weight
what does empty space suggest?
lightness, airiness, and flight
what is texture?
an object that is touched and has texture
what is implied texture
it reminds of us of a certain texture
what is subversive texture?
brain doesnt think that is the texture
what is the most vivid element?
color
what is value?
lightness or darkness
what is hue?
identifying color groups
what is space/perspective
it is implied by background foreground
what does space and perspective use
they use color combinations and alternating textures which is an illusion of space
what is atmospheric
fuzzy haziness/further away
what is isometric lines?
diagnoll parallel l lines and you cant tell where the line starts
what is linear lines?
imaginary lines converged at specific points for illusions
what is foreshortening lines?
at an angle not flat
what implies seasons/years or months
motion/time
when motion happens what else happens?
time
what does time and motion do
implied motion where we can infer motion was intended and literal motion
what is form?
an element with organic and geometric lines and it needs other elements
