What is a compound?
They are made up of two or more elements that are chemically combined
Name three examples of a compound?
Water - hydrogen and oxygen
Carbon dioxide - carbon and oxygen
Iron sulphide - iron and sulfur
Name three mixtures
Sea water
Air

What is a mixture?
A mixture contains two or more different substances mingled together but are not chemically combined
What are the differences of a mixture and a compound?
Compound. Mixture
Made up of one sustance. Made up of two or more substance
Always mixed in a fixed ratio. Amounts of the sustance can vary
Difficult to separate. Usually easy to separate
The elements function change. Substances function is the same
Heat changes when mixed. Heat stays the same when mixed
What is an element?
When a sustance is made of a lot of the same atom
