They are a substance that cannot be split into other substances.
Where are the metals and non metals in the periodic table?
The metals are on the left side while the non-metals are on the right side.

The most common is hydrogen followed by helium

A compund is a substance made up of two or more elements joined together
What is a molecule?
It is a particle made of two or more atoms of the same element strongly joined together
