Acids and alkalis Flashcards
What is an indicator?
It’s a dye that changes colour in acidic and alkaline solutions
What is it called when a substance changes state from more ordered to less ordered?
Endothermic change of state
What is it called when a substance changes state from less ordered to more ordered?
Exothermic change of state
What is neutralisation?
It’s a chemical reaction where an acid reacts with an alkali to get closer to pH 7
Is rain more acidic or alkaline?
It’s more acidic
How do you test for Co2?
Bubble gas through limewater. If it turns cloudy it’s Co2
How do you test for H?
Hold gas tube over lighted splint. If there’s a squeaky pop it’s H
How do you test for O2?
Place smoldering splint inside gas tube. If it relights it’s O2
